Defib in the spotlight- The LifePak CR2 USB Semi- Automatic Defibrillator

The idea of using a defibrillator in the case the The LifePak CR2, can be overwhelming for anyone, regardless of their training or surroundings. While some automated external defibrillators (AEDs) may appear intimidating, they are all created with the same purpose in mind: to aid in saving a life.

Defibrillators are extremely intelligent pieces of emergency equipment designed with the user in mind, so that no matter the experience the user may have they can save a life. They can talk you through the entire process, and some even provide compression feedback, some can tell you in real time if you need to change your speed and depth so you can correctly deliver CPR.
Each AED is different, and it can be difficult to know which may be best for you, so we have created this blog to introduce some of the Market leading AED’s First up is the Stryker’s CR2 USB Semi- Automatic AED designed with simplicity in mind, and which might be the right fit for you.

Overview of the LifePak CR2 USB Semi- Automatic defibrillator

The CR2 USB is part of Stryker’s LifePak range and is available in both the Semi- Automatic and the Fully- Automatic model. It is recommended that untrained users purchase the Semi- Automatic over the Fully- Automatic model as the Semi uses a button to deliver the shock, meaning the user has complete control over when the shock will be delivered and typically has a faster shock rate, this can mean a greater chance of survival, as the faster the shock is delivered the higher the possibility that it can restart the heart back to a regular rhythm.

Features of the LifePak CR2 defibrillator

  • Child button/switch. Having a child button or switch on your device means you will save both money and time, if a child goes into cardiac arrest, instead of having to purchase paediatric pads and remove the adult pads to place the paediatric ones, you just need to press the button or flip the switch. When the Cr2 is closed the CR2 device resets to adult mode avoiding any clinical risk.
  • Adaptive voice control. The CR2 uses ClearVoice™ technology, which changes its volume in reaction to the volume of the environment, so if the environments noise increases, as does the CR2s volume. This enables the prompts to be heard more clearly in noisy environments.
  • CprCOACH™ Feedback Technology. The LifePak CR2 provides CPR coaching on technique and correct depth for both adult and paediatric patients during the cardiac arrest response. A metronome provides tones at 104 beats per minute (BPM) to guide the responder. The CR2 also detects if compressions are performed and will adjust the voice prompts accordingly.
  • Dual Language. The CR2 has an option for dual language to be configured upon ordering, for a primary and secondary language. If configured for two languages, the device can switch between the two at the press of a button.
  • Time to shock. The CR2 shocks up to 360J into a 50Ω load. The CR2 USB semi- automatic time to shock with cprINSIGHT enabled is under 7 seconds, and the time to shock without cprINSIGHT is under 17 seconds.
  • Portable and durable. The CR2 USB only weighs 2kg, is shipped with a handle and has the option of a carry case at an extra cost so is easily portable. The device is also very durable, as it has an IP55 rating and has passed a 1-meter drop test.
  • 8 Years warranty. The CR2 is backed by its manufacturer for 8 years of warranty.
