The Imperial Rooms in Matlock has just installed a new Automated External Defibrillator (AED), providing potentially life-saving equipment for use in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.
High Tor Players funded the AED and its cabinet, and the team at Defib4Life donated a bleed control kit to accompany the installation. The addition of lifesaving equipment to the venue ensures it is fully prepared in the event of a medical emergency and offers support for the safety of its visitors, performers and staff.
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere. Calling 999, starting CPR immediately and using an AED as soon as one is available can significantly improve the patient’s chances of survival. Having a defibrillator nearby allows first responders to take action while they wait for the emergency services to arrive, something that can have a huge impact on survival rates.
Installing a defibrillator at The Imperial Rooms means the venue now has equipment available to support a fast response to sudden cardiac arrest. As a venue used by local clubs, groups, societies and everyone from the local community, having this equipment in place is a practical investment in the wellbeing of the people who use it on a daily basis.
It’s also the perfect opportunity to raise local awareness of the importance of defibrillators and encourage those in the area to familiarise themselves with where their nearest device is kept.
This installation was made possible by High Tor Players, who paid for both the defibrillator and its cabinet.
Their contribution has made potentially life-saving equipment available at a shared community venue. Anyone can experience a medical emergency, and supporting a shared venue in this way helps strengthen its ability to respond.
We were so pleased to be asked to supply the device and would like to thank High Tor Players for making it possible. Their support shows how a local organisation can make a lasting contribution to a community space and the people who visit.
When we received the order for a defibrillator within our local community, we wanted to go the extra mile, so we donated a bleed control kit to The Imperial Rooms to broaden the emergency equipment available at the venue.
An AED and bleed control kit are life-saving pieces of equipment in different ways but both help to ensure a venue is fully prepared in the event of an emergency. AEDs are essential for a response to sudden cardiac arrest, whereas a bleed control kit helps to control severe bleeding before emergency services arrive on the scene. Having both available helps the venue prepare for different medical emergencies.
Martyn’s Law has recently shone the spotlight on how venues prepare for serious incidents and protect the people who use them. Although the legislation does not specifically require defibrillators or bleed control kits, our donation reflects the wider importance of planning ahead and supporting an effective emergency response.
Installing this equipment does not, on its own, establish compliance with Martyn’s Law but it is a practical step towards improving emergency preparedness at The Imperial Rooms and building on the investment made by High Tor Players.
Having equipment available is an important part of emergency preparedness. However, ensuring local people also know where the equipment is kept and how to access it is just as important.
For any venue installing an AED or bleed control kit, it’s worth considering how staff, visitors, volunteers and regular users will be made aware of the equipment. Clear signage, familiarisation and appropriate training can all support a more confident response.
Ongoing maintenance is also an essential part of defibrillator ownership. Equipment should be checked and maintained in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines, with responsibility assigned for monitoring its condition and replacing consumables such as pads and batteries when needed.
These practical steps help keep the defibrillator ready for use in an emergency.
We’re pleased to have supported The Imperial Rooms with this installation and bleed control kit donation, and we’re grateful to High Tor Players for funding the AED and cabinet.
